Elements of Ceramics
Kate Conklin
Ninth Grade, Class of 2022
Pink, Gray, and White This is my first time in ceramics. For my first collection I made an array of wheel-thrown bowls and a sculptural piece. My collection’s color scheme is light pink, gray, and white. I was inspired by the minimalistic style, the popular color scheme, and my room. Each bowl is pink, gray, and white, but in a variety of designs to make each unique. Once all the bowls came out of the bisque I used the glazes Tutu Pink, Silver Gray, and Arctic Blue. For one of my bowls I placed tape on the surface and painted the different colors to make a geometric, interesting looking bowl. For another one of my bowls I painted each surface a different color then dripped the opposite colored glaze onto that side. For this bowl I painted the surface white and splatter painted the gray blue and pink. For my final bowl I kept it simple and did vertical stripes in a color pattern of white blue, pink, and grey. My sculptural piece is included a hanging wall planter. My wall decoration has a few different surfaces so I painted each a different color from my color scheme. My little spherical beads are for decoration. I was going to decorate my surface where my pieces are in the show. In my bowls and planters I wanted to put little plants in my bowls and in my planter so my beads would decorate the bowls too. In conclusion, this semester in ceramics was so much fun you will definitely see me next year!
